How Binaural Beats Work

Binaural beats work by sending different frequencies of sound to each ear. Different frequencies have different effects on us. Scientists have been researching these different frequencies and how to produce them for nearly 170 years. They realized that our brains go through different frequency cycles throughout the day. Just as your brain goes through different frequency cycles during the different stages of sleep, a similar thing also happens during waking hours as well. You may have already noticed that you are more creative at a certain times of day, and struggling to stay awake and alert at others (are you affected by an afternoon slump?).

Besides going through it’s own frequency cycles, the human brain responds to difference frequencies by changing the frequency it’s operating at. But many of these beneficial frequencies are outside the range of human hearing. Scientists had to overcome the challenge of sending the brain frequencies that the ears could not pick up. They discovered that if a different frequency was sent to each ear, the brain would compensate for the difference by creating a frequency which was exactly the difference between the two frequencies. So if you send a frequency of 180 Hz to one ear and a frequency of 200 Hz to the other ear, the brain would produce a frequency of 20 Hz, which by itself is too low for the human ear to pick up. So in this way we can tune the brain to different frequencies.

For example, research has shown that our learning capabilities are enhanced when we are in the theta stage. We can use frequencies of between 4 and 7 Hz to put ourselves into the theta stage. So we could send a frequency of 500 Hz to one ear and 507 Hz to the other ear to put the brain into a theta state. If this was used in conjunction with language learning tapes it would allow us to tap into our potential for accelerated learning.

So, Do Binaural Beats Work?

In my experience, absolutely YES! One of the most profound examples of this was my experience during a bout with severe insomnia. I used went to bed, buzzed and wide awake as usual, and put on my mp3 player to repeat a binaural beats to induce sleep. I think it’s about 10 minutes long and by the third loop through I was so sleepy that I could barely manage to turn off my mp3 player and put it on the nightstand. Seriously! I was impressed, to say the least.

I had bought this set of 5 Binaural Beats because it was affordable. Really it was so inexpensive that I figured even if it didn’t work it wouldn’t be such a great loss - I spent more on lunch in a typical work day. Plus there was a money back guarantee, so I literally had nothing to lose. I bought the set primarily for the sleep music, but after experiencing what as amazing effect it had I started listening to the others. There’s also a binaural beat for enhancing creativity in this set and I found myself listening to it over endlessly while I worked. It made writing so much easier, I also found I could focus for longer periods of time and it seemed to enhance my problem solving ability.

Once I had dipped my toe into the waters of binaural beat technology, I was hooked. I’ve now got quite a collection, and I don’t listen to any other type of music now. It seems like a waste of time compared to the benefits I get listening to binaural beats. I’ve even found a very affordable Binaural Beats Membership where I get a new binaural beat mp3 every week.

So far I’ve received binaural beats to enhance focus, creativity, relaxation, energy (this one is very effective - don’t listen to it before bedtime or you may not be able to sleep), accelerated healing and binaural beats for memory, as well as some guided meditation tracks. I look forward to my email each week to see what the week’s binaural beat will be.

Where to get Binaural Beats

If you are interested in trying out binaural beats I highly recommend the Binaural Heaven Membership, it’s affordable, you can cancel at any time and there is a money back guarantee so it’s basically risk free. I know the price will be going up soon. Right now it’s a very affordable $15 a month, so if you subscribe before the price increase you will be locked in at that price.

I’d never heard of binaural beats, and I sure get an afternoon slump. This could be worth a try as I’m getting bored of my habit of running for the caffeine every afternoon!
